Partner Alone

Partner Alone is a full playthrough challenge run of Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. In this challenge the player plays through the game while only using a selected partner to attack.

Rules

Primary

• Mario can only select Appeal/Defend/Run Away (TTYD) or Do Nothing/Run Away (64)
• The selected partner is the only partner that can be out during combat.
  • If you enter combat with another partner, you must use that partner to swap to the selected partner.
  • In PM64, partners can't use Items, so these can be used with Mario and subsequently skipping the partner's turn. This also applies to Star Beam and Peach Beam on the Bowser battles.
  • An exception is made in TTYD, as only Yoshi can harm the Armored Harriers.
• (PM64) Bow Only runs end after defeating Hallway Bowser, as she is unable to harm Final Bowser at all.
  • Similarly, Huff N. Puff can't be harmed by Watt or Kooper and isn't able to be defeated with attacking items, so this boss may be ignored for challenge completion. The same is true for Bow with Crystal King.
• (TTYD) The selected partner should be in front whenever possible.

Optional

• Mario cannot First Strike.
• Mario cannot use defensive Action Commands.

• In Paper Mario there's a handful enemies and bosses that certain partners cannot damage at all, so the way the situations are handled is up to the player, here are the cases (Bosses will be highlighted):
  • Goombario: Spiked Goomba, Bill Blaster, Bowser???, Jr. Troopa (Pleasant Path), Cleft, Pokey, Pokey Mummy, Swooper (Ceiling), Piranha Plant, Hyper Cleft, Spiked Gloomba, Pyro Guy, Lava Bubble, Spike Top, Lava Piranha (Phase 2), Jr. Troopa (Toad Town Harbor), Spiny, Swoopula (Ceiling), Ember, Koopatrol, Jr. Troopa (Bowser's Castle, Phase 2).
